Situated at 1300m, nestling beneath Lachat (2100m), Chinaillon enjoys an excellent snow record and offers a great range of pistes, from easy green runs for beginners to the challenges of the toughest black runs and excellent off piste potential. You are able to choose between a Le Grand Bornand pass, which provides a wide variety of pistes on your doorstep, or alternatively an Aravis Pass will open up 220km of slopes between le Grand Bornand / Chinaillon and La Clusaz.

The area also offers some 62km of cross-country skiing, with routes from Chinaillon and le Grand Bornand. Well marked and maintained routes for snowshoeing provide another alternative for those wishing to explore the mountains in winter.

Le Grand Bornand has a superb patinoire (ice rink), for those with energy left after a day on the snow! Both Chinaillon and le Grand Bornand have cinemas as well as a wide range of restaurants. There are plenty of special events during the winter season ranging from the torch lit descent of Father Christmas to ski competitions. The tourist information office in Chinaillon is always only too happy to help keep you informed of what is happening during your holiday. One night each week there is a floodlit skiing session on the Chinaillon pistes.

The ski bus system is well organised and offers buses around Chinaillon, to le Grand Bornand and to la Clusaz. This is useful if you choose to holiday without a car, but want to visit the weekly market in le Grand Bornand or the ski slopes in la Clusaz, for example.

Le Grand Bornand / Chinaillon is well endowed with ski hire shops and ski schools. You are able to choose from private lessons or group lessons, in English or French and to suit all ages and abilities. There is plenty of provision for younger children and Chinaillon offers excellent nursery slopes and practice areas. You can book ski lessons in advance, or at quieter times, arrange them during your holiday.
